I'm a self taught artist, working out of my studio on the Suffolk coast here in the UK where I live with my long term partner Jenny and our dogs. With a strong interest in the natural world I use art to express my passion for wildlife. I'm also inspired by music, people and places that have influenced me throughout my life. I left home relatively young so my true education took place in the British army from the age of 17, but I strongly believe that I continue to learn each day.
My wide portfolio of subject matter includes traditional landscape, seascape, wildlife, portraiture and highly detailed illustration, even some still life.
In the main I've been influenced by many relatively unknown contemporary artists, people who have perfected certain techniques and styles of work which are instantly recognisable as their own. I've worked hard to learn some of these technical skills, experimenting and developing methods a little further to produce my own style. First and foremost though, I try to portray emotions and inject a spiritual atmosphere into my work which may take the viewer to another place, far beyond that of my reference photographs or pure hyper-realism.
Favourite quote
"We patronize them (animals) for their incompleteness, for their tragic fate for having taken form so far below ourselves. And therein do we err. For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours, they move finished and complete, gifted with the extension of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings: they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth.”
