At last I've completed my new pencil drawing. It's been a bit of a journey, what with injuring my wrist early on, then having to fit in short sessions of drawing between the goings on of the run up to Christmas.

I'd wanted to portray a scene of elephants trekking long distance across the African landscape for ages, ever since discovering the work of ace wildlife photographer Nick Brandt. His work is amazing and being predominantly monochrome, is one of the main reasons I was inspired to concentrate on pencil art. I still keep my hand in with other mediums of course.

The reference photograph for this drawing, which I obtained from Unsplash.com, was taken in what looks like a muddy paddock but the elephants poses were just right for what I had in mind. I sketched them out using the reference before making up the surroundings from my imagination, putting the resulting scene under a dramatic sky.

The more observant among you will have noticed I've renamed the drawing 'We Three Kings'. I thought it appropriate considering the time of year.

It's always good to see people taking an interest in my works-in-progress over on Facebook, and this particular drawing has generated quite a bit of interest. It is currently reserved for one of my followers.
