Medium: Pastels on Pastelmat Image Size: 16 x 12.5 inches Framed Size: 23.5 x 20 inches
'Ice In The Sun' is a colourful pastel painting on pastelmat card. It depicts the worlds largest carnivore, Ursus Maritimus or polar bear. As the planet warms up and the polar ice caps begin to melt away, the dwindling population of polar bears live on the very brink of starvation for much of their lives. I've placed the magnificent creature in a wintery wilderness with a semi abstract feel to the background. I've used Panpastels as well as pastel pencils for this piece, achieving a high level of detail in the main subject while creating atmosphere and mood with the misty, cloudy background. With my pastels, I've also added a 'lens flare' effect in the sky to add more interest. If memory serves me well, this is only the second polar bear I've ever portrayed.
Measuring approximately 16 x 12.5 inches, this painting is presented in a white mount and framed in an oak coloured wooden frame to a total size of about 23.5 x 20 inches, ready to hang. It is signed on the front and will be accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
